In teaching the simple present tense form of the verbs, the challenge is for the teacher to explain and make it clear to the grade one kids that some verbs happen regularly. Some are thinking that we are talking about actions that just happen every day that if a day is missed in doing something, then that does not happen regularly anymore. What I did was just took time in enumerating the possible time words that may mean that something is regularly done. Another challenge is the exercise in the book which is very complicated for them to answer in the sense that the directions require them to do three things at a time. It said, Color the cloud blue if the verb is in the simple present tense form then write on the blank if it is in the s-form and base form. I just hope that these kinds of exercises never happens again for it really requires a lot of time. Surprisingly, the easiest for them to understand seem to be the idea that a singular subject requires a singular form of the verb and the plural subject requires a plural form of the verb.
