On Submission of Reply Slips and Class Performance

As a teacher, ideal as it may seem, it is important to be research oriented. One step that lead a teacher to becoming one is through being observant on the things that are happening around. Even the littlest thing that manifests in the learning performance of the students should matter (and this does not always mean stressing oneself as how some always puts it by saying “bakit mo ba i-stressin ang sarili mo?”)
Unfortunately, with the bulk of work that teachers have to perform, this remains to just become a dream or ideal for most of us including me. But I don’t want to talk about complaining with bulk of work. I just want to share about an observation while I was checking on who have not yet submitted the reply slip in Penmanship Rating. Two things struck me. What struck me were the names of the kids who have not yet submitted are the names of the kids who do not perform well in my class. The section whose students have all submitted is the section who, not only for me but for other teachers as well, is top performing.
With this, I thought, could there be a correlation between submission of reply slips and academic performance (or at least performance in language since I cant speak for other subjects)?
For me, being able to comply on time with the requirements of the school requires for a parent to be hands on or vigilant or monitoring on what is going on with their child in school. I believe that those who can always comply on time are kids who are well taken care of at home and well monitored and those who are not are maybe those whose parents are too busy to make a living though with the intention also of providing their kids with quality education.
This may be a good point for research…someday. J
